Morpheus8V is a revolutionary FDA-cleared bipolar radiofrequency (RF) device that safely delivers controlled pulses of thermal energy through microneedles deep into the vaginal and vulvar tissue stimulating fibroblasts to contract existing collagen and synthesize the production of new collagen and elastin to restore the strength and elasticity of the vagina and vulva.

The Science

Morpheus8V is a minimally invasive fractional treatment that leverages bipolar RF energy delivered through tiny micro wounds to heat the tissue at various depths. Heating the tissue increases blood flow and activates the production of collagen and elastin throughout the treatment area. This leads to more tissue support, lubrication, and elasticity of the vagina and vulva.

Patients also report improvement in lichen sclerosis symptoms, recurrent bacterial and yeast infections, chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs), vulvodynia (vulvar and/or vaginal pain) and decreased sensation with intercourse.

What to Expect

Treatments are comfortable and safe with minimal downtime. Morpheus8V treats urinary leaking, overactive bladder, sexual sensation, vaginal atrophy, vaginal dryness, vaginal and/or vulvar pain, painful intercourse, labial laxity, recurrent bacterial or yeast infections, chronic UTIs, lichen sclerosus, and the aesthetic appearance of the vulva and/or vagina.

Depending on your specific symptoms, treatment plans may include a combination of the EmpowerRF platform devices. During the consultation, you and your practitioner will create a custom plan based on your personal objectives to obtain optimal results. Typically, the best results with Morpheus8V are seen in three 20-minute treatments received 4 – 6 weeks apart. As we continue to age, additional treatments will be necessary to maintain the desired results. These should be scheduled when you start experiencing symptoms again and are typically received annually.

A topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area(s) in the clinic 30 minutes before the treatment. During the session, the Morpheus8V device probe is inserted intravaginally. The provider will deliver the RF energy along the entire vaginal canal, in 3 separate passes of various pin depths, to attain maximum delivery of the RF energy. In addition to the vagina, Morpheus8V can also be used on the vulva, perineum, and perirectal skin.

Pre/Post Treatment

Pre Treatment

You will need to have a normal PAP test within the past 24 months. Treatment cannot be performed if you have an active infection or rash. If you do, please call the clinic to reschedule your appointment. Treatment may be performed if you are currently menstruating, however, don’t hesitate to call the clinic to reschedule your appointment if you prefer to postpone your treatment.

If you have a history of herpes simplex virus / cold sores (oral or genital), please let your provider know as you may be provided a prescription for an anti-viral medication the day of the procedure to avoid an outbreak. Shave the treatment area 24 hours prior to the appointment. Do not wax or use a chemical hair remover. Discontinue any topical skin irritants 2-3 days prior to the procedure.

To avoid infection, the treatment area will be thoroughly cleaned prior to the procedure. Please avoid using any lotion, powders, or bath/shower oils in the treatment area.

Post Treatment

The side effects of Morpheus8V are minimal with almost no downtime. Patients should expect to see micro lesions a few days after treatment and slight redness depending on treatment parameters. Slight to moderate swelling and mild to moderate sunburn-like sensation are also common and may last 1-3 days. You may experience slight tenderness, temporary bruising, or scabbing. The skin may crust and peel for 2-7 days depending on the treatment parameters.

You may relieve the sunburn-like sensation and swelling by applying cool washcloths. Avoid ice packs as the skin may still be numb and you do not want to create a cold injury. You will likely have vaginal and/or vulvar bleeding and/or spotting. This can last up to 7-10 days but typically only 2-3 days. This may require the use of panty liner or pad.  You may experience pain after the procedure. You may take over the counter pain medications.  Recommend pelvic rest (no sexual intercourse), no baths or hot tubs for 5-7 days. Sexual intercourse may be resumed once there is no longer any bleeding or discomfort. You can resume exercising in 24 hours.

A barrier ointment such as Aquaphor, Vanicream Moisturizing Ointment, or petroleum jelly will be applied after the procedure. No bandages or wraps are necessary. Use the barrier ointment prior to each urination for 3-5 days as needed.

Treat the skin gently. Avoid scrubbing the treatment area or exposing it to trauma. Avoid washcloths or sponges and use water or a gentle cleanser for the first 3 days to clean the skin.  As the skin heals, it is common to experience itching. Use a barrier ointment as needed.
