Diolaze XL: Hair reduction

The Science

DiolazeXL treats by a process called selective photothermolysis, which targets the melanin in the hair shaft and the blood cells that supply the hair growth. Melanin in the hair shaft absorbs the laser light and transforms it to heat. The heat damages the hair follicle, disabling its growth.

DiolazeXL offers the largest treatment area as well as the largest cooling area of all laser hair removal systems. This cutting-edge design makes the DiolazeXL laser the leader in providing comfortable, efficient, and effective laser hair reduction.

As with all laser hair removal systems, DiolazeXL requires a series of treatments. Laser hair removal works best when hair follicles are at their mature stage; however, at any given time your hair is in various stages of growth. Hair is reduced with each treatment, with a 50% reduction often seen after the first treatment. Typically, the best results are seen after six sessions starting four weeks apart and extending to when you notice the hair starting to grow. Several factors such as the treatment area, hair type, skin tone and hair color will affect the number of treatments needed to achieve the optimal results. If the hair in the treatment area is course, it may take more treatments to achieve the reduction you desire. As the laser targets the melanin in the hair follicle, for those with very light blonde or gray hair, DiolazeXL may not be a treatment option. For all patients receiving laser hair reduction, touch up treatments may be needed to remove additional hair follicles that begin to grow. Hormones can stimulate hair growth over time, which is why hair may start to grow again after the treatments.

We are unable to treat hair that is within a tattoo as the laser will damage the tattoo pigment permanently altering the appearance of the tattoo.

Pre-Treatment

Avoid any tanning 3-4 weeks prior to treatment or use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

Topical retinoid therapy should be discontinued 3-4 days prior to treatment.

Discontinue any irritant topical agent 2-3 days prior to treatment.

Shave the treatment area 24-48 hours prior to treatment.

Post-Treatment

Immediately following the DiolazeXL treatment you may experience a very normal reaction called perifollicular redness and edema, which is the hair follicle reacting to and releasing the heat from the laser. It looks like bug bites or a small rash and should only last a short time.

Apply a cold compress if needed.

Apply moisturizer immediately after treatment.

Sunscreen should be used for 3 weeks following the treatment and 3 weeks preceding the next session.

Make-up may be applied immediately after a facial treatment if the skin is intact.

During the first 2 days following treatment, prevent trauma to the treated areas such as hot baths, massage, etc. The skin should be kept clean to avoid infection.
